CELEBRATING CANADA

Let’s celebrate Canada every day,
not just July 1st each year,
remembering how fortunate
we are to be living here.

We have so many opportunities
and also the freedom to choose.
Participating is what’s important,
no matter if we win or lose.

We can express opinions
on all topics to which we relate,
by word of mouth or in print—
that’s a big reason to celebrate.

Natural beauty is evident
in this vast country of ours,
rivers, lakes, mountains, forests,
meadows – I could go on for hours.

Appreciate all your surroundings,
both near to you and far,
whether you’re walking close to home
or going for a drive in your car.

Take a quiet moment
to be grateful, to feel at peace,
it empowers body, soul and mind
and allows stress to be released.

Celebrate with family and friends,
associates and neighbours too.
Be aware of your surroundings
and treasure each unique view.

Have a safe and wonder-filled long weekend everyone.

MY DAD’S BIRTHDAY

This would have been my Father’s birthday,
he was born in 1908.
A quiet, gentle, caring man
and as Husband and Daddy – first rate.

He loved my Mother very much,
he was courteous and kind,
soft-spoken and supportive—
which are the ties that bind.

We were a family of seven—
three girls, two boys, Mum and Dad,
all born and raised in England,
then to Canada, “opportunities to add”.

He helped a lot of people
to understand their spiritual self,
by sharing his knowledge of the Bible
and the textbook – Science & Health.

He left a legacy of love
with all who knew him well.
That’s the best legacy to leave,
still felt in stories we tell.

Happy Birthday Dad.

St. Patrick’s Day Humour

DEM LEPRECHAUNS

Dere’s a pot o’ gold in yonder del
I see it shinin’ in der night
but by time me gets to where it’s at –
it’s disappeared from sight.

Me tinks it is dem leprechauns
playing dere tricks on me
dey knows I’d search t’ rainbow’s end
t’ find treasure meant fer me.

So I sits ere contemplatin’
how I can outsmart dere pranks
whilst I down a pint or two
an’ toast de Guinness’s, w’ tanks.

I’ tis a big dilemma,
dey gang up on me y’ see,
an’ I can ‘ear ‘em laughin
as the grog takes over me.

Ah well, maybe tomorra
I’ll tink up an ingenious plot
as to how I can bypass der tricks,
but dey are a connivin’ lot!

Dem leprechauns!
