CELEBRATING CANADA

CELEBRATING CANADA

Let’s celebrate Canada every day,
not just July 1st each year,
remembering how fortunate
we are to be living here.

We have so many opportunities
and also the freedom to choose.
Participating is what’s important,
no matter if we win or lose.

We can express opinions
on all topics to which we relate,
by word of mouth or in print—
that’s a big reason to celebrate.

Natural beauty is evident
in this vast country of ours,
rivers, lakes, mountains, forests,
meadows – I could go on for hours.

Appreciate all your surroundings,
both near to you and far,
whether you’re walking close to home
or going for a drive in your car.

Take a quiet moment
to be grateful, to feel at peace,
it empowers body, soul and mind
and allows stress to be released.

Celebrate with family and friends,
associates and neighbours too.
Be aware of your surroundings
and treasure each unique view.

Have a safe and wonder-filled long weekend everyone.

My Garden Christmas Eve

Garden Christmas Eve

MY GARDEN ON CHRISTMAS EVE

Carrots from my garden
will be part of Christmas dinner.
To be gardening on Christmas Eve
makes me feel like a winner.

We still have roses blooming,
primrose are showing their heads.
Birds are noisily feeding
before they seek their beds.

A Downy Woodpecker, Hummingbirds,
Chickadees, Pine Siskins, Juncos,
Sparrows along the hedgerow,
are all birds that come and go.

Soggy lawn but lush and green,
kale is still prolific.
To live here on Canada’s south west coast
I feel blessed, it is terrific.

Merry Christmas Everyone

Happy Canada Day

HAPPY CANADA DAY

July 1st in a heat wave,
Happy Canada Day.
Take time to honour our country
and celebrate in your own way.

We have so much to be grateful for.
Start each day with gratitude
for all the freedoms we possess,
our health relies on a good attitude.

Natural wonders are within reach
mountains, rivers, lakes, the sea,
beautiful trees, flowers and fields
All available for you and for me.

Let’s celebrate each other –
neighbours, family and friends.
with a smile, handshake, a cheery “Hello”,
or a phone call to make amends.

Be safe when you are traveling,
be courteous, helpful and kind.
Be proud you are a Canadian
and keep gratitude on your mind.

Happy Canada Day

CANADA DAY

Sunshine, blue skies, birds singing,
garden growing every day,
an amazing world we live in –
Happy Canada Day.

I’m so pleased my parents decided,
sixty-one years ago,
to move our family to Canada
where, they knew, opportunities grow.

We enjoy so many freedoms here,
language, culture, written word,
religion, foods from our native lands,
freedom to speak out and be heard.

So much to be grateful for
in Canada, our homeland,
natural beauty of many kinds
to explore throughout the land.

Here in Canada’s southwest corner
we have mountains, fields and the sea,
a natural playground to enjoy.
I feel blessed to be here, being me.

Happy Canada Day

Christmas Peace

 CHRISTMAS PEACE

Christmas is not far away,
decorations are appearing.
Christmas trees are being put up,
it’s an atmosphere that’s endearing.

Having peace at Christmas
is a miracle in itself.
Everyone is busy
making sure there’s food on the shelf.

The stores are full of shoppers
trying to buy what’s on their list,
buying an extra gift or two
in case there is someone they missed.

Christmas cakes are all wrapped up
in cheesecloth soaked in brandy,
Christmas cookies are being baked
(a supply of them is handy!)

Celebrations of many kinds –
breakfasts, lunches, dinners.
Donating food to help the poor
makes all of us the winners.

Christmas concerts being performed
for the audiences delight;
‘O Come all ye Faithful’, ‘Jingle Bells’,
and the beautiful ‘O Holy Night’.

Santa’s are filling stockings
for all the girls and boys.
There are new ideas every year
for all the latest toys.

It’s a busy time for airlines
family visits are in order,
everyone’s got extra bags, and
security’s tight at the border.

I pray for peace this Christmas –
the peace that is meant to be.
Let’s all strive for peace of mind
to keep Canada glorious and free!
